The antique boards are green half calf leather over satin effect boards, which are in Poor condition being complete but with the top board detached, a piece of the spine detached (but still present (please see photograph), and scratches to the leather.

The pages from this Charles Dickens Barnaby Rudge book are taken directly from Charles Dickens Master Humphrey’s Clock and so start at page number 229 and ends at page 306 which is noted as being the end of volume two of Charles Dickens Master Humphrey’s Clock; and then continues with page 1 of volume three of Charles Dickens Master Humphrey’s Clock and finishes at page 420 with the words “End of Barnaby Rudge”.

The endpapers have an attractive marble effect, which is also patterned to all edges of the pages.  Prior to the beginning of the book are 4 blank pages, one of which has been inscribed in a very stylised hand (possibly from the original owner of the book); there is the frontispiece taken from Charles Dickens Master Humphrey’s Clock that has been very expertly coloured (possibly by an artist); there is the Title Page that reads “Barnaby Rudge A Tale of the Riots of ‘Eighty By Charles Dickens with Illustrations by George Cattermole and Hablot K Browne Complete in One Volume” and there is a two page Preface by Charles Dickens that ends with “Devonshire Terrace, York Gate, November 1841”.

The pages are in overall Very Good condition with some occasional colouring of plates, but with the vast majority of plates being untouched; foxing to some pages, and we have noticed a small marginal closed tear to page 31/32 of volume three with no loss of paper.

This is an extremely scarce Charles Dickens Barnaby Rudge first single edition book from 1841 with some faults but will nevertheless make a welcomed addition to any Charles Dickens book collection or antiquarian book collection.
