The First Edition has this very scarce and collectable A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh book for sale, A.A. Milne The Hums of Pooh. This A.A. Milne Hums of Pooh song book was inspired by two books by AA Milne which are Winnie the Pooh and A.A. Milne’s The House At Pooh Corner. This A.A. Milne The Hums of Pooh children’s illustrated book is packed with illustrations of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and other characters by E.H. Shepard and AA Milne’s poems have been set to music by H Fraser Simson. This is an A.A. Milne first edition book that was published by Methuen and Co Ltd and measures an impressive 9.75 x 12.25 inches approximately.
The front of the original dust jacket has a cream background and is filled with music notes in orange, with Winnie the Pooh in different poses of each of the musical notes. The back of the dust jacket has an advertisement for five A.A. Milne song books which are A.A. Milne Fourteen Songs From When We Were Very Young, A.A. Milne Teddy Bear and Other Songs From When We Were Very Young, A.A. Milne The King’s Breakfast From When We Were Very Young, A.A. Milne Songs From Now We Are Six, and A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs From When We Were Very Young.
The dust jacket is in Very Good condition being complete but with slight dust staining and occasional marks; wear to the top and bottom of the spine; and a couple of old tape repairs to the inside of the dust jacket. This rare dust jacket is extremely attractive and together with this rare and collectable A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh book will make a superb addition to any A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh book collection, or any rare and collectable children’s illustrated book collection.
The original boards to A.A. Milne The Hums of Pooh 1929 are just spectacular. The front board has the same design as the front of the dust jacket with the exception that the musical notes are green in colour against a cream background and have the Winnie the Pooh images on each of the musical notes. The back board is plain as required, and the spine is a tan colour again as required.
The boards are in Very Good condition with slight wear to the top and bottom of the spine; light dust soiling to the bottom edge of the front board; and light age toning to the plain back board. Overall this is a very clean and attractive set of boards for this highly collectable A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh children’s illustrated book.
There are 67 numbered pages which are packed with large and smaller stunning Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and other character images from the A.A. Milne books Winnie the Pooh and The House At Pooh Corner which has been set to music by H Fraser Simson.
The Title Page to A.A. Milne’s The Hums of Pooh dedicates the Lyrics By Pooh with Additional Lyric by Eeyore, Introduction and Note by A.A. Milne and Decorations by E.H. Shepard. This wonderful Title Page to The Hums of Pooh is illustrated with two images of Winnie the Pooh to the top of the Title Page and an illustration of Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore towards the centre of the Title Page.
Opposite The Hums of Pooh Copyright Page is a printed handwritten message from A.A. Milne to Cicely Fraser Simson, the wife of Harold Fraser Simson who was the composer of the music to the A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh song books. Following from this page is the long Introduction by A.A. Milne, the Contents Page and 17 A.A. Milne poems from Winnie the Pooh and The House At Pooh Corner set to music by H Fraser Simson and magnificently decorated with the book illustrations of E.H. Shepard.
The pages are in overall Very Good condition with the usual light age toning to the front endpapers and the rear endpapers; age toning to the margins of the pages; and a small closed tear with no loss of paper to the bottom margin of pages 25 and 26 which just misses the small illustration to the bottom of page 26.
A.A. Milne The Hums of Pooh is a rare, collectable and highly desirable large A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh song book which no collection of A.A. Milne books or collection of children’s illustrated books should be without.
