The First Edition has this rare and collectable children’s illustrated book for sale, A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs. This is the A.A. Milne first edition children’s illustrated book, adapted from the A.A. Milne classic Winnie the Pooh book Now We Are Six, with E.H Shepard illustrations of Winnie the Pooh and other characters throughout. This is an A.A. Milne first edition book published by Methuen and Co Ltd London in 1927. This A.A. Milne children’s illustrated book measures 9.75 x 12.25 inches approximately. This rare Winnie the Pooh related first edition book comes complete with its original dust jacket.
The original dust jacket is light pink in colour. The front of the dust jacket features E.H. Shepard’s illustrations of Christopher Robin in three different poses, two of which are with A.A. Milne’s character Winnie the Pooh.
The back of the A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs song book dust jacket has four advertisements for other song books in the series which are: Songs From Now We Are Six song book, Teddy Bear and Other Songs song book, Fourteen Songs From When We Were Very Young song book, and The King’s Breakfast song book.
This rare dust jacket for the A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs song book is in Very Good condition with wear to the top and bottom of the spine with minor loss; slight wear to the edges of the dust jacket; and a few marks gathered over time. However, the faults are minor since the large jacket remains attractive and mostly complete without any serious damage or faults. This dust jacket and book will make a wonderful addition to any A.A. Milne book collection or children’s illustrated book collection.
The original brown boards have a tan coloured spine and publisher’s illustrated label attached to the front board. The label features two illustrations, one of Winnie the Pooh and the other of Christopher Robin. The boards are in Very Good condition with slight knocking to the top and bottom of the spine. The publisher’s illustrated label is in Fine condition.
There are 40 numbered pages that contain A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh poems set to music by H. Fraser Simson, and numerous black and white illustrations of Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and other characters by E.H. Shepard.
The pages are in overall Very Good condition with light browning to the endpapers, which is usual for these books; and cracks to a few of the internal hinges, although all the pages are firmly bound in.
Additionally this example of A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs song book has an advertisement loosely inserted for The Christopher Robin Calendar 1929 and When We Were Very Young Notepaper. Since this is the first edition of A.A. Milne’s More Very Young Songs song book from 1928 it is believed that this advertisement is contemporary with the book. However, this is an advertisement that we have never encountered before and so believe it to be exceptionally rare. The advertisement has slight loss and staining to the top but is mostly complete and makes an exceptional addition to this already rare and desirable Winnie the Pooh related first edition book.
This A.A. Milne More Very Young Songs song book will make a great addition to any collector of A.A. Milne Winnie the Pooh early illustrated books, or to collectors of old children’s illustrated books in general.
